On 23rd April, in Gallipoli (Lecce), the “Città Bella”, the recognition of Italian citizenship was granted to an Italian descendant from Argentina.
Gallipoli, as well as being one of the preferred destinations in the Puglia region for its incredible beaches (favoured by young people thanks to the vibrant nightlife) and its beautiful historic centre, also presents itself as an open and active town in terms of social and cultural matters. Within the framework of our Active Citizenship programme, the municipality therefore opened its doors to Federico Ciccioli, one of the new partners of Raíz Italiana, originally from Francavilla D’Ete (province of Fermo) and resident in Oncativo (Córdoba).
In the presence of Mayor Stefano Minerva and the head of the Civil Registry Office, Lucia Piro, Federico signed the citizenship act and became a new Italian citizen in all respects.
Fede's months in the Gallipoli comune were marked by the volunteer experience he undertook at the comune's Charity Soup Kitchen, where he was affectionately welcomed by the other volunteers and had the opportunity to improve his knowledge of the language, as well as discover some secrets of Salento cuisine.
This type of experience reflects the spirit of the project undertaken by Raíz Italiana; to give Italian descendants the opportunity to experience Italy authentically and gain greater awareness of their origins. In this way, citizenship not.
We express our gratitude to the entire municipality of Gallipoli: Mayor: Stefano Minerva / Director of the Demographic Services Sector: Dott.ssa Maria Teresa Di Lorenzis / Head of the Civil Registry Office: Dott.ssa Lucia Piro; to the large family of the “Mensa della Carità”, and especially to Fede, who placed their trust in Raíz Italiana and the project it carries forward, sharing the sentiment for the land of their grandparents.
